About Andrea Marzo

I was first inspired to make mosaics after collecting beautiful sea glass and sea washed ceramics along an Italian beach some fifteen years ago. Not sure what to do with my treasures but some idea that I would create a mosaic of them. I found some weekend courses and a week long course in Ravenna Italy which helped me develop the confidence, skills and knowledge to create mosaics.

My inspiration mainly comes from the natural world and I am drawn to objects that are aged and formed by nature; peeling bark, knarly wood and patterns of frost and dappled light on sea and shore. Of late I am drawn to the colours and textures of fruit and vegetable and things edible which means I have to search and forage for the glass and ceramics that suggest the right textures and shades for the subject.
