The Guv'nor

I am particularly inspired by watercolour paintings when deciding what to work on. This owl, and its haughty expression, particularly appealed to me and I chose to represent it using some wonderful Red Dog clay-like material from the USA and other textural components such as slate and glass.

Slate, Red Dog, unglazed ceramic tiles, pottery, shells, Van Gogh glass, stained glass, fused glass, Albertini glass.

Shelly

This was a lovely opportunity to use a mixture of natural materials - shells, marble tiles and more. My favourite materials!

Shells, fused glass, marble tiles, unglazed ceramic, lead came, millefiori, Byzantic tiles, glass tiles.

Forest bark

Our proposed exhibition of Fruits of the Forest at RHS Harlow Carr for 2021 was cancelled, inevitably, but this didn't stop the ideas from brewing! I was thinking trees, and bark, and yet more textures. A broken garden pot offered some wonderful inspiration, along with some driftwood and tinted glass.

Pottery, driftwood, beads, unglazed ceramic, stained glass, marble.

About Nicky Tudor

I discovered modern mosaics around 20 years ago and have been fascinated by them ever since. My style of work has evolved over the years and I particularly enjoy working with texture, using a variety of materials. Favourite subject matters have included birds, animals, house numbers and even buildings, but I'm happy to consider commissions for anything!
